Joburg Expat: Great Website for Expats

Great Website for Expats

In addition to working on Joburg Expat, I've also been writing content for some other expat websites.

One of those is Expat Arrivals, a very well organized place any future (and current) expat should pay a visit to. It's got detailed information for a long list of countries, and each country is subdivided into different cities and sections such as essential info, shopping, visas, banking, travel, health, schools, and more. Check out the Expat Arrivals - Moving to South Africa section to see for yourself.

Hi Sine,

It looks like you have been busy. Just an FYI for you, did you know that Amazon in the UK delivers has free super shipper service to SA with a 25 pound (currency) purchase? So, if there are things on the amazon.co.uk site that you would like, you can order it with free delivery for now. Just thought I would share the info because I read that you missed shopping on amazon.

Wow! That's awesome, thanks for sharing. I'll have to try it and write about it. My only worry would be the postal service (or do they ship DHL?) and also customs - we've had stuff stuck there for weeks. Have you tried it out?

I haven't used it -- my dad is coming in three weeks with full suitcases (including a kitchen sink tap!)but my friend uses it all the time and regularly has books delivered to her house. She gets the slip from the post office and goes to get it. No problems whatsoever.

"Including a kitchen tap" - lol, what an image you've now put in my mind! But that's exactly how it is for us as well. We make friends bring all sorts of stuff - that's the price for being put up in our "Joburg bed and breakfast". Will definitely try out Amazon UK.

I was wondering if you could tell me anything about Springs? My husband travels there frequently and might be taking on a year project there (so of course I want to go too with our 4 kids:).

I'm so sorry but I don't even know where Springs is? I can ask around if you want. What ages are your kids? Where are yo coming from? Feel free to go through my contacts page and send me a direct email.

So, did you write their neighborhood guide? Your profile is listed with that article. If so, it has been a life saver for me as it has helped me to determine which areas to look for houses in.

Yes I did, did you mean this one: http://www.expatarrivals.com/south-africa/johannesburg/areas-and-suburbs-in-johannesburg. Glad you liked it and found it helpful! I've since then also written something similar here, you might still get to it. I had some friends helping me with the different areas as I didn't really know that much about Joburg, spending most of my time only in the Northern Suburbs.

That was it. It is my go to guide.
